Make-up catwalk trend: Simple eyes
The A/W catwalks have been showcasing captivating eye make-up with a minimalistic feel to it. Simplicity is your key to one of this season\'s most fashionable looks. "Eye make-up goes simple this season" said Pat McGrath global creative director for Max Factor. "It\'s the opposite of excess. Now, it\'s about doing just one thing - a flick of liner or a smudge of shadow and using one neutral colour to do it."

Make-up trend: Bold matt lips
Terry Barber MAC make-up artist told us, "The feeling this season is more playful than powerful. Take the red lip; what originates as a very classic look becomes contemporary through detailing like slightly removed edges, softening the corners or powdering the finish (matt)." We say, deepen your summery pink and coral lipstick shades to a deeper reddy tone by mixing them with rich berry shades. Think 1920s glamour not OTT garish.

make up trend for nails for autumn winter
Jenni Draper session nail technician for Revlon predicts, "Texture is important this season, so matt polishes are still big. They\'re also great for a \'quick fix\' as they dry quickly and there\'s no need for a top coat. Mix things up even more by painting a matt nail with a glossy tip, giving you a new spin on the French manicure! When it comes to colours, greens have grown up so out with the pastels and in with the dark, moody emeralds."

catwalk makeup inspiration for the Smoky taupes trend
The runway trend for taupes and khaki shades has been brewing for some time now and we are pleased these soft, easy-to-wear hues are a must-do for the new season. While working backstage for MAC, Charlotte Tilbury said, "The 1920s are a key feel for me at the moment with washes of shadow and strong shading effects with taupes, greys, minks, browns and khakis. For lips I\'m not interested in a vulgar lip look this season; lips should have a twenties feel think sensual, dramatic, decadent...\'

Make-up trend: The new smoky eye
The smoky eye still reigns but it has gone slightly lighter with shades of beige, taupe and grey rather than heavy blacks. Pat McGrath global creative director for Max Factor says, "The overall effect is softer and the eye has a new shape too. We are working in new ways using a little line near the lashes, minimal mascara and washes of neutral colour to open up the eye." We\'ve also seen a lot of violet and navy for A/W perfect if you want to create a more smouldering smoky eye. Top off with a dash of glitter too.

Make-up trend: The minimal lip look
This season it\'s not enough to just wear bare lips, it\'s about the ‘new nude\' which means toning down your natural lip colour and using high impact gloss. "This look is natural plus" says Pat McGrath, global creative director for Max Factor in describing the barely there, beautifully balmed lips seen this season. Pat\'s kit for creating this season\'s ‘undone\' lip is balm, worn either on top of a colour-neutralising layer of concealer, or on its own to achieve that perfect finish. "It gives a nude dimension to the lips which enhances their natural beauty." says Pat.

Make-up trend: Honey highlights
Cover up shine with powder for this season\'s matt look, but don\'t mask the natural contours of your face. Instead use cream highlighters with a brush or powdery bronzers to lift skin along your cheekbones. Gordon Espinet, vice president of make-up artistry for MAC says, "The focus of the moment is on products that affect the look of the skin and the way it plays with light. Highlighting and shading the face in a realistic way is key, all in cashmere effect caramel honey tones. Essentials are a matt bronzer and sepia-toned shadows."

Make-up trend: Matt radiant complexion
Winter doesn\'t mean layers of foundation and oodles of powder, in fact this season it\'s all about letting your natural skin tone shine through with the help of cleverly applied make-up. Chase Aston, celebrity make-up artist and ambassador for The Body Shop told us, "Matt yet radiant flawless complexions are in! Complement with golden shimmer highlights lightly dusted onto the highest points of the face. These are this season\'s absolute must-have make-up looks!"

Make-up trend: Nail colour
Step away from pastel nail shades and reach for rich deep colours with hints of razzle-dazzle. Lena White, managing director of OPI in the UK told us, "The most influential nail trends for A/W nails are bold shades. Think rich berries, dark teals and metallics such as OPI\'s upcoming Lucern-tainly Look Marvelous."

Make-up trend: Statement brows
Bleached eyebrows are sooo last season - one of your key new season investments should be a creamy eyebrow pencil so get buying and shading now. Val Garland, make-up artist at Fashion Week reported, "It\'s a big eyebrow look this season. I\'m seeing a lot more strength in the brow - it\'s really about giving a sense of boyish strength to the face." Less dyed, more colour.
