St Tropez backstage at the House of Holland spring/summer 2011 show

St. Tropez skin finishing expert Nichola Joss reports backstage from this season’s House of Holland show at London Fashion Week…exclusively for Handbag.com

I’ve worked with Henry for a few seasons now and it’s always a great way to start London Fashion Week. We get to the The Old Dairy by about 12 noon and start setting up the tanning booths. Compared to some, the backstage area is quite roomy but before long floor space becomes a precious commodity and I’m pleased we arrived so early!

The collection is one of Henry’s best yet. Inspired by the iconic Diane Lane’s Fabulous Stains performance, he’s gone for a punk rock edge contrasting with a delicate pastel palette to create a new trend that Henry has named "Pastel Punk". I’m a fan instantly!

Following a few test shoots with Henry and his team last week, we agreed to give the girls a super polished skin finish with a really healthy glow to help soften his punky look. I set to work immediately on creating the romantic and delicate tan by misting the models with a light coat of St Tropez Instant Glow Wash-Off. It works well to give a golden, glowing and radiant base.

There are over 20 girls so by the time the base is done I start back with girl number one layering with a combination of the St. Tropez Rose Illuminator blended with a unique custom-made, silver-rose illuminator over the top to help perfect and polish the skin. The finished look has a dewy sheen and helps bring to life the colours of the collection.

The illuminator works well when applied to the fronts and backs of legs, the entire arm all the way onto the nails and the décolleté. We all work as a close team backstage so it was great to see the make-up artist Lucia Pica applying the rose illuminator to the girls cheekbones – which really helped to tie in the look.

The front row fills up with some famous faces including the lovely Ellie Goulding and ever stylish Pixie Geldoff. As soon as the girls hit the catwalk – pastel punk is born!
