Behind the scenes – Katy Perry fragrance launch

It was no surprise that Katy Perry wanted to create a fragrance, which was not only sexy and feminine (it’s a fruity floral mix of peach, apple and jasmine), but one that had a quirkiness about it and a “sense of humour”. As we all know, Katy doesn’t do things by halves and it’s fair to say she follows her own rules (Gwen Stefani is her muse BTW). But that’s what I like about her.

With inspiration for her first fragrance bottle taken from her love of, you’ve guessed it, cats, it was while in a hotel in New York that Katy sketched out the bottle design on a piece of paper – exactly as it appears today. As for being involved in the fragrance composition, Katy told us she was involved “to the point of being annoying”. She’s obsessed with being in charge of her own products and who can blame her. If something had my name on it I’d want it to be good too.

As for more fragrances and a future make-up line, Katy said it’s a real possibility but she very much doubts her and new hubby Russell Brand would ever do a joint fragrance venture à la Posh and Becks. They apparently save being in their undies for behind closed doors. Like most of us then!

Oh, and if you’re wondering if she really did get a tiger as a wedding present from Russell, you’ll be sorry to hear it’s all total nonsense. Like much of what is written about her, she claims.

From £37.50, Purr by Katy Perry launches in Selfridges today and nationwide from the 20 November.
