handbagger blog : my day at Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model Live 2011

They say that networking is all about who you know, yet for someone who’s a nobody I did very well for myself at BINTM Live.

I took my sis along for a birthday treat, and we made sure we inhaled the whole experience, including taste-testing fudge and sampling an interesting take on slush puppy flavours...who knew there'd be so much food at a fashion/shopping event? But you know it’s been a good day when even your favourite ‘they don’t hurt my feet’ heels have to be replaced with a pair of comfy flats, and I'd stored a sneaky pair in my Nica Satchel bag - phew!
Here's the highlights of our day at BINTM Live.

A.Pointing out - not very subtley - Vernon Francois to my sister. He asked me to prove that I did in fact know who he is, and in my best I’m-not-starstruck-at-all accent, I reeled off a list of 'casually fabulous' campaigns, celebs and TV shows that he's contributed to, and I was rewarded by being granted my picture with him. But that wasn't the only highlight of meeting Mr Francois, he also said that I - little Miss nobody - made his day as apparently not everyone did their homework on who they were talking to. Shame!

B.After seeing male models struggling to take their own picture I offered to help; I am such a good Samaritan. Once the pics were taken I was once again rewarded with a photo opp with the male models - oh, it's tough! The fact they were wearing just strips of material covering the bare essentials obviously had nothing to do with my motivations, but an accidental bum graze on my behalf did leave me hot and flustered as how do you explain to the scantily clad man that it was just an accident?

C. The Joey Bevan catwalk was amazing! Plus, having my photo with some of the models was the icing on the cake, and it’s nice for once to be the short one - I'm 5ft 9.

D.Grabbing front row seats to hear handbag.com’s Louise discuss beauty tips was inspiring, although I was pulled from the crowd and had my make-up bag analysed by Louise. By chance it was not my Dior lipgloss that was used as an example, but my Asda shimmer blusher palette - eek! But it was fun to be used as a model to show Louise’s tried and tested bronzer application technique - a technique I now swear by to make my cheekbones even more fabulous! ; )

E.Our row B seats for the catwalk were definitely worth the wait, and to then have Bluey Robinson performing in front of us and HOB salon’s Darren Bain sitting behind us, we couldn't believe our luck! Plus we were treated to gorgeous male dancers strutting their stuff and the BINTM girls smashing the catwalk in gorgeous outfit after outfit, the catwalk show was definitely a must see for me.

F.Trekking home on the tube gave me the opportunity to rummage through my goody bag, which was crammed with make-up, hair essentials and a good old Galaxy chocolate bar, because after all, a girl can't work a BINTM Live event on fudge, slush puppies and photo opps with male models!
