London Fashion Week 2011 backstage blogs - Bourjois for Clements Ribeiro
Cassie Lomas, Bourjois make-up artist, blogs exclusively for Handbag.com backstage at the Clements Ribeiro show.
It's been a nerve wracking week as the test with the designers, Clements Ribeiro and the head stylist Tina, only happened at 7pm last night. The test went really well and it was instantly obvious that the inspiration for the make-up should be taken from the vintage print on the fabrics.
This morning was an early start, waking up at 5am to finish off my face charts and organising the kits for the models. We arrived backstage at the venue at 6.45am and it seemed way too calm, which was nice. After the demo my assistants got to work on the models just grabbing them as they walked through! It was my job to clear each girl once her make up was finished and let the artists know of any changes that needed to be made. There were a whopping 13 of us on the make-up team! But everyone got really involved. It's always stressful splitting the time between hair and make up but we just got amongst it and worked together.
The look was based around the skin. I wanted a healthy complextion that didnt look over-done. It was young, fresh and flawless. I used the new Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum to put life into the skin and removed any shine with the Mineral Radiance Powder. All the colours were of a matte texture and we chose muted tones that were distinguishable from the fabrics. The concept was that the girls had woken up and looked dreamy. The make-up was applied as if they were really sleepy and just dipped their fingers into the little round pots of colours and smudged it across their eyes. We let the powder fall onto the lashes.
The inner rim of the eye was lined with an eye pencil in Sand Rose, again to intensify the sleepy effect. Brows and lashes were bare and combed, lips were neutral so we could see the skin texture of the lips. The look was finished with a flush of colour, which Bourjois is most famous for, a rose pink over the apples of the cheeks. Who doesnt own a Bourjois pink blush?
After rehearsals there was a last minute dash as six models arrived five minutes before the show was due to begin! There was a flurry of artists all playing their part to get the girls ready. At one stage there were six hair and make up people to one girl!
The show was amazing, and it wasnt until afterwards that the excitement really hit me. It was such a great experience to head the show for Bourjois. And working with the legendary hair stylist Sam McKnight was also a highlight for me.
