Salon vs Cellulite‚ Smooth operators

The Cellulite Slayer at Neville, £140 for 45 minutes‚ tested by Katie Mulloy: “I love a massage. I love the kind of massage that is so deep and pumelling it’s almost painful. The good sort of painful. So clearly I was an ideal candidate for Tatiana, a former black belt Judo champion and her body reshaping massage. After a body brush and seaweed wrap, Tatiana gets to work - her magic hands start with a full-body deep tissue massage combined with lymphatic drainage techniques. It is, quite frankly, heaven. I hate a namby-pamby massage and this doesn’t even stray into that territory. It not only relaxes the muscles and gets the blood pumping but also starts shifting the toxins. Then Tatiana moves onto her manual cupping technique - a sort of vacuum that creates airtight pressure on your problem areas. It’s brilliant; it literally feels like my fat is breaking down, which I know is mainly psychological but so what? And when I look at my thighs afterwards, there is definitely a smoother sort of sheen to them. It will take a few sessions to see the proper inch-loss effect but I am already sold. I think those hands could do anything.

Power Plate/Lipo Contour Booty Camp at Selfridges , £200 for 12 sessions, tested by Kirsty Hathaway: “Power Plate has been a buzz word in fitness for a while, and for this Booty Camp they‚ have teamed up with Lipo Countour - part-cycling-shorts, part-thermal-underwear that have been proven to promote inch-loss. So, sign me up! My first session started with an InBody Analysis - not as intrusive as it sounds. It is basically a high-tech measuring device that tells you everything from your BMI to your calorie burning potential. Slipping on the Lipo Contour shorts isn’t exactly the greatest look I’ve ever rocked but if these bad boys are going to rid me of my wobbly bits, I don’t really care. The class is short, but sweet it is not. The exercises are tough and the trainer certainly knows her stuff. She instantly sees my weak spots and how injuries have affected muscle groups in my legs (it turns out an old ankle injury is contributing to the worsening cellulite in my left leg) - and points out technical errors making the exercises harder and more effective. The one-to-one attention is really motivating as is the super-short length of the class. I leave believing that I might just be dimple free some day soon.
