With deliciously dark hues of midnight blue and purple taking over our make-up bags and wardrobes this winter, we thought it apt to dress our nails in the shades of the season too. Read on for the results as we put five of the best polishes through their party season paces...

This polish appears purple in the pot but it's actually navy blue with a very subtle purple shimmer. It's strong - just one coat is needed - with a great consistency and long-lasting formula, plus the sheen is so faint that it's ideal as a day polish too.

This polish is perfect for party season - midnight blue with bright blue/purple shimmer and sparkle. Easy to apply and a great budget buy, though it can be a bit wishy-washy after one coat, so make sure you have time for the second.

A gorgeously cute little pot and as always, the polish is easy to apply and long-lasting. This shade is a pretty pale purple with subtle sparkle - two coats are definitely needed for the true hue but as it's paler than the others, it's great for less beauty brave who want to sport a splash of purple this season.
