Our beauty assistant Jessica Hopper has suffered from chapped lips, come summer or winter, for as long as she can remember. Finding lipstick too dry and heavy, she is a self-confessed lip-gloss junkie and the obvious choice to test out five of our favourite brand's deliciously fruity summer glosses. Time to pucker up
Stila Lip Glaze, Apricot
£15
This smells and tastes deliciously fruity, and the hue is perfect for soft, summer make-up and sunkissed skin. The fact that it's a pen with a twist-function and brush makes a nice change from all the tubes on the market nowadays, and although it feels a little gloopy and sticky at first, it stays put and looks great. Definitely going into my summer beauty bag.

Pout Plump, Forbidden Fruit
£16
The inflatable packaging is so cute I was reluctant to remove it, but once I used this gloss I was glad I did - I've fallen in love with it! Pout is not just a clever name, my lips felt instantly plumper, fuller and more kissable. It smells just like After Eight mints (yum!) and the gorgeous fuchsia pink is THE shade for the season. My lips tingled on application, which just told me it was working, and the formula was non-sticky, lightweight and super-glossy. It was always going to be tough to pick a winner from five such gorgeous items, but Pout gets top marks everything you could want from a lip-gloss.

Chantecaille Lip Gloss, Guava
£21
Another favourite when it comes to packaging, this sleek, chic silver compact holds a slick of stunning peachy-pink-red gloss with gold undertones, and mirror - the lack of brush means you have to use your fingertip or carry your own. This gloss also has a SPF15 which makes it perfect for your summer clutch, and the lightweight formula and silky texture left my lips instantly smoother and nourished. Only complaint is lack of fruity taste or smell.

Clarins Colour Quench Lip Balm, Raspberry
£12
Despite the gorgeous raspberry shade, this gloss smelt and tasted just like cherries delicious. The fact that it's a balm as well as a gloss makes it a great little product for anyone who suffers from dry lips. The colour's actually a lot brighter than it appears in the tube and looks fab on really dewy, shiny and non-sticky. And it did leave my lips feeling really soft and supple.

Estée Lauder Pure Pops, Fizzy Pear
£12
I love the name of this shade it sounds so yummy. Although it appears a subtle, peachy shade in the tube, this is actually a clear gloss with tiny gold flecks. My lips looked really glossy and it stayed put, but this product felt quite heavy and the lack of colour was a shame. This is nice for a day look would be ideal for the beach this summer but if you're looking to make an impact with your pout in the evening, I'd definitely suggest trying another shade.
