nude nails, beige nails, cream nails, Natio, Famous by Sue Moxley
top 10 nail colour - nude nail varnishes
Nail it: Labelled as mannequin nails in the industry, models at Chloé, Dior and Marc Jacobs all wore neutral tones ranging from milky nudes to subdued beiges and cashmere creams.
\r\n\r\nExpert opinion: I love nude nails but theyre not for everyone, explains Iris Chapple, nail extraordinaire and manicurist to the stars. If youre olive skinned choose a beige polish with a yellow tone but if youve got a yellow tinge to your skin you should avoid the beiges and go for pinky nudes instead - otherwise after a couple of days it can look like nicotine as the colour will change with time.
\r\n\r\nPick a polish: Natios Mineral Nail colour, £9 in Maple from Debenhams is a no nasties, chip-resistant polish that is perfect for creating pale nails, while Famous by Sue Moxley in Nude, £4.50 from Superdrug is nicely natural and does exactly what it says on the tin.

blue nails, nail trends, new nail varnishes, autumn winter nail polish, two tone nails
top 10 nail trends - blue nails
Nail it: Tapping into the Twilight trend, sapphires, midnight tones and navy blues are back. Striking, glossy and a great follow-up to the dark denim colours from summer, look out for the two-tone varieties too.
\r\n\r\nExpert opinion: I love, love, love dark blue. Its one of those colours that acts like red and most people can wear a nice red says Iris Chapple. People are pretty scared to use it at first but once its on and they dare to wear it theyre amazed and its a great alternative to black not everyone can wear that.
\r\n\r\nPick a polish: NARS have just resurrected five shades from yonder years for their Vintage collection, one of which is the incredibly popular dark blue Midnight Express, £13 from Selfridges. For that metallic two-tone twist, dont be without Nubars Peacock Feathers, £8 from beautyshed.co.uk.

top 10 A/W nail trends - green
Nail it: Jade and mint green may have caused a stir last season but for fall, deep forest shades, mossy hues and twinkling emeralds are the colours to covet.
\r\n\r\nExpert opinion: Green nails might not sound enticing but a rich dark pine-forest shade is surprisingly glamorous for night and can give a beautifully glossy finish, says master manicurist, Anatole Rainey.
\r\n\r\nPick a polish: Almost every new autumn collection has a green theme. Shawn, £10 by Zoya at zoyapolishes.co.uk is a grassy green colour that looks way better on than off, while Emerald City, £6.99 by Revlon, nationwide ticks two trends in one thanks to its sparkling jewel-inspired colour and perfect matt finish.

ruby red nails, nail trends, new nail varnishes, autumn winter nail colours
top 10 autumn/winter nail trends - ruby red
Nail it: The warmest winter shade there is, if you find pillar-box red too prominent try a rich ruby or mulled wine metallic instead theyre opulent without being over extravagant.
\r\n\r\nExpert tip: Dark red is more sophisticated and mature than bright red, especially as we\'ve got quite used to it in the last couple of years, says Sophy Robson. Plus the new wave of dark reds are super sexy for that femme fatal look.
\r\n\r\nPick a polish: e.l.f.s new Cranberry polish, £1.50 from eyeslipsface.co.uk is a mouthwateringly magnificent colour with a pretty pearlescent sheen, or try O.P.Is From A to Zurich, £9.95 at lenawhite.co.uk an expensive-looking ruby red.

red nails, nail trends, new nail varnishes, autumn winter nail colours
top 10 autumn winter nail trends - red
Nail it: Rarely out of fashion and always making an impact is the classic red nail polish. Bright, glossy and glamorous, this season it was models at Paul Smith and Giles who rocked the red look best.
\r\n\r\nExpert tip: I love scarlet red for a real statement. I would suggest filing into a blunt squoval neither square nor oval - but mimicking the shape of the end of the finger. This leaves enough space to show off a great polish but looks professional and is practical, explains Anatole Rainey.
\r\n\r\nPick a polish: Fresh from their new collection, Scarlet by Jessica, £8.95 (call 0845 217 1360 for stockists) is the brightest of the bunch and has been designed to match this seasons loud lips. Similarly Red Berries by Barbara Daly, £3 from Tesco is a fabulous fire engine red.

top 10 autumn winter nail varnish trends - brown
Nail it: Cosy, comforting and very addictive (!), earthy browns and rich mochas scream sophisticated and luxurious. Just make sure you wear with fingerless cashmere gloves so everyone can admire your on-trend talons.
\r\n\r\nExpert tip:> This seasons browns are beautiful and look lovely on blondes, explains Iris Chapple. With darker colours like this, wear it on nails just above the finger otherwise you run the risk of looking like Cruela de Vil and always keep your nails even, not a combination of long and short!
\r\n\r\nPick a polish: Barielles autumn/winter collection is made up entirely of browns but our favourite has to be Tight Knit, £8 from barielle.co.uk a milk chocolate crème colour. For a deeper shade, Mavalas Dark Brown nail varnish, £3.95 from greenhands.co.uk is a conker-coloured sensation.

purple nails, autumn winter nail trends, new nail polishes, nail varnishes
top 10 autumn winter nail trends - purple
Nail it: From the deepest, darkest plums that could almost be mistaken for black to the softest, icy lilacs if youre going to wear purple this season make sure its at one end of the colour spectrum or the other no mid-shades allowed.
\r\n\r\nExpert tip: Coloured nails are officially chic again! says manicurist to the models, Sophy Robson. I have just finished fashion week in Paris and the vampy nail was definitely back. Darks purples work on most skin tones as the blackness complements the skin and should lessen the appearance of redness, while lilac looks good on olive or yellow-toned skins.
\r\n\r\nPick a polish: For a black grape finish, Rimmels 60 Seconds polish in Pompous, £3.49, nationwide is a rich purple with a hint of sparkle. Alternatively, Lowndes Square, as part of a four polish set, £25 by nails inc at nailsinc.com teeters on grilac a unique shade of cool lilac meets mink.

grey nails, autumn winter nail trends, new nail polishes, nail varnish trends
top 10 autumn winter nail trends - grey
Nail it: If youve flirted with the idea of grey nails but havent ever taken the plunge, now is the time to do so. A huge A/W trend, Marios Schwab led the way on the catwalks with a pale gunmetal grey. Our advice: steer clear of any sparkle.
\r\n\r\nExpert tip: Gunmetal grey is the logical conclusion from summer\'s light grey trend, divulges Anatole Rainey. Try it instead of beige for an edgier look that goes with every colour in your wardrobe. Next to colourful clothes it will look neutrally chic and against black it will stand out as an interesting choice of nail, especially at night.
\r\n\r\nPick a polish: Leighton Denny nail polish in Graycious, £11 from leightondennyexpertnails.com is a versatile pencil-lead pewter that has a lovely high gloss finish or for a slightly lighter interpretation of the trend, try No 7s Speed Dry Nail Colour in Grey Skies, £6.75 from boots.com.

metallic nail varnish, gold nails, silver nails, new nail varnish trends, top new nail colours, autumn winter nails
Autumn/winter nail trends - metallic nails
Nail it: Do not mistake this trend for glitter-laden polishes that look like theyve been scattered with stardust. Instead, choose a silver or gold that looks like liquid metal, melted down to achieve a metallic colour-rich coating.
\r\n\r\nExpert tip: Youve got to be careful with metallics, warns Iris Chapple. Silver is very nice on dark haired people because its an icy colour and if youre a redhead or have a sandy skin tone then golds can look lovely, but be careful - gold is part of the yellow toned group so it can be similar to beige and should be avoided by those with yellow undertones to their skin.
\r\n\r\nPick a polish: Girls who love gold will adore Precisions Party Like a Rockstar, £5.99 (call 020 8885 2555 for stockists) which gives shine and shimmer without any inappropriate glitter particles while Silver Bullet from Topshop, £5 looks exactly like the silver ink from metallic marker pens (you know, the ones everyone used to write their Christmas cards with!).

Autumn winter nail trends - monochrome
Nail it: Sophy Robson got fashion followers talking when she unveiled her monochrome manicure at House of Holland A/W 10. Embellished with block capital letters, thousands followed the nail art extravaganza leading to a new demand for black and white designs.
\r\n\r\nExpert tip: This is a stylish alternative if you are more into minimalism, suggests Sophy Robson. At my pop up salon in Selfridges we used a white base and then painted on black logos or designs to create that monochrome look. With white, it is essential that the surface of the nail is completely even and clean before painting to avoid patchiness or streaking.
\r\n\r\nPick a polish: A high shine black that gives an even coverage, use Me Me Mes Fearless, £4.50 mememecosmetics.co.uk as a base and then add detail with Rituals French Manicure Tip, £7.90 from rituals.com. A thick white polish, its a brilliantly bright and wont get lost against its jet-black counterpart.
