Why did you do a new range of cosmetics?
I did a range last year for Christmas with Boots, and it went really well, people really loved it. So it made sense to do another collection.
We put together mood boards for the packaging. I really like the juxtaposition of the pretty, vintage crockery and the beatles with their iridescent shells. I think they look like glittery beads, and then when you take a second look you realise that theyre beatles. We also played around with the formulations, testing the textures; its really important that the make-up and body products feel nice as well as looking good and doing what they're supposed to do.
What did you learn about the beauty industry?
Oh, I learnt so much! And Im a complete make-up junkie, so it was really interesting, actually. I realised how important texture is and how different textures can get such different effects.
Whats your favourite product from the range, and any insider tips on how to wear it?
Erm, where do I start? I love everything. The chunky eye liner is a definite fave. And I love the lip glosses, I need them in my life, like now even if I wear nothing else on my face I need a lush lip gloss.
How influential is your mum to your make-up looks?
Oh, massively influential, massively! She is the most glam woman I know, she wears make-up everyday, in fact mum doesn't even leave the house without full make-up, she even walks the dog at 6am with a full face on - amazing! I think if I didn't wear make-up she'd march me up to my room and make me put some on.
Do you and Holly ever have girls nights in where you play with make-up?
Oh yeah! Well pop round to each others and have wine and paint our nails, that sort of thing. But Holly loves the make-up range. When my first collection came out I gave her a massive hat box of the make-up.
Have you ever had any beauty disasters?
Oh my god, so many! I went through a brown phase, where everything was brown, brown lipstick, brown eye shadow so bad! I find false eye lashes difficult, and sometimes you may find me with eye liner smudged up to my eye brow after a big night out...
What are your make-up no-nos?
Well, Im not that great with blue eye shadow, it just doesnt suit me, yeah blues can be tricky to wear for me.
What particular era of fashion do you love for the make-up and hair?
I love the 1970s, fashion was amazing and I think it was one of the best eras for music too, because youve got such a big mix from pop, soul, rock and so many fashion scenes too, like the punks and hippies. But I also really loved the '60s Twiggy look.
Whats your natural make-up look?
Im pretty low maintenance really. I can be done in 10 minutes flat and I often do it during my radio show. Black eye liner is a must, then a bit of tinted moisturiser, cream blusher and tinted lip balm, thats it really.
Our verdict
We loved Fearne's new range, and we loved Fearne! It sounds like such a lame, trite thing to say, but she was lovely and normal! Our fave product? Hmm, probably the awesome Fearne Compact, £12, which contains 10 brilliant eye shadows. Oh, and watch out for Fearne Cotton's Christmas range - it's amazeballs!
