Today (1st December) is World Aids Day, which is the annual opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV.
Each year MAC launch a new Viva Glam lipstick with the help of a fabulous celeb, to raise money for the MAC AIDS Fund. This year the celebrity is none other than Lady Gaga, in a campaign thats an eccentric, make-up mash up made in heaven. We would love to have been a fly on the wall when they worked on the moodboard
The result of the campaign is another iconic image and a highly covetable, on-trend lip colour; and this year theres a Lipglass as well as a lipstick thats had the Viva Glam treatment. At first glance the beige-y nude shade may not be everyones cup of tea, however the shade is one thats surprisingly flattering on every skin tone. The Lipglass has a more pinky tone than the lipstick.
So far the MAC AIDS Fund, which profits from sales of Viva Glam Lipstick and Lipglass, has raised $235million, with the help of the MAC Viva Glam ambassadors, who include Lady Gaga, Mary J Blige and Elton John.
As well as the Viva Glam collection MAC make-up artists also down tools and volunteer at organisations that help those affected by HIV/AIDS.
In London, MAC artists will be volunteering at Positive East in Stratford and Stepney. These two centres are dedicated to improving the physical, economical, emotional and psychological quality of life for individuals and communities affected by HIV across East London. The MAC volunteers will be talking to women at Positive East, advising on their beauty regime and make-up looks, with the hope of encouraging self-belief. Children will also get the chance to have their faces painted by the MAC artists. Neil Young, MAC Senior Artist, said It is so inspiring...to see first hand the immense impact the MAC Aids Fund has on individuals living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
Meanwhile, back in stores, any customers who purchase a Viva Glam Lipstick or Lipglass today will receive a temporary tattoo that reads Everyday is World AIDS Day at MAC.
