Backstage at London Fashion Week – Erdem

With elbows at the ready we made our way backstage at Erdem to get the lowdown on the hair and beauty for the show.

backstage erdemErdem was launched in 2005 by Erdem Moralioglu. His beautiful designs are both graphic and bold yet infused with a delicious romanticism that have taken the fashion world by storm. The British Fashion Council just announced that Erdem will receive a British Fashion Council Fashion Forward sponsorship for the third consecutive season, surely a sign of how well this label is being received by the discerning fash pack.

Who we saw: The queen of fashion herself, Anna Wintour, Erin O'Connor looking elegantly statuesque and Samantha Cameron wearing an Erdem jacket - always good to butter up the designer with some shameless fashion flattery.

Make-up: Andrew Gallimore for MAC was directing the look for the Erdem London Fashion Week show. The make-up was all about the eyes with lashings and lashings of mascara, we're talking at least three layers here over heavily curled lashes. The looked was finished with a cotton bud dipped in make-up remover swept along the lashes to melt the mascara into the curl and really hold it in place under the lights of the catwalk. Skin was kept dewy with no cheek colour, just luminous skin finished with a light dusting of powder over the T-zone.

Hair: The Charles Worthington team were in charge of coiffing the already overstyled hair of the models running in from other shows. Erdem's spring/summer collection had a Japanese influence so all the models were given a Kami knot. Sleek partings were created and the hair pulled back into a ponytail midway between the crown and the base of the neck then simply divided in two and tied in a knot as if you were tying your shoe laces. One end was then tucked under and the other left messily yet artfully arranged coming from the knot. No shine spray was used but a little hairspray on the hands smoothed down flyaways at the parting yet knuckles were used to ruffle up the rest of the hair to give it a lived in yet styled look.
