LFW backstage at Paul Costelloe

by Katie Corcoran
All about staying beautiful. Beauty tips, tricks, advice and inside knowledge on products, trends and shows

This morning Paul Costelloe opened London Fashion Week and left Somerset House with an air of spring about it. Backcombed ethereal cloud hair, minimal romantic make-up and metallic dresses mixed with oversized bows and pastel pinks left me feeling all fuzzy inside. Shame it was actually the coldest day of the month so far. So as I braved the cold in sandals – mistake – I went backstage and caught up with make-up supremo Attracta Courtney who was using the fantastic Shu Uemura products to create the make-up look for Paul’s show. Branded as ‘raw romance’ and ‘the awakening of femininity’ it was a pretty spring look with an edge about it in the form of wow-factor lipstick. Attracta said it was all about creating an individual look rather than aspiring to something - it’s about being pretty with attitude. Easy right?
Here’s what we saw backstage:

The products to invest in:

Shu Uemura matt lipstick in 128 – a bold red which should be layered on over a red lipstick pencil and kept matt. Soften at the edges with your fingers for an airbrushed finish. From £16.50 spacenk.co.uk

Shu Uemura Cream Eye Shadow in P Brown – pat over eyelids all the way up to your eye brows for a wash of colour which catches the light. Don’t add mascara. £18.50, spacenk.co.uk

Spring/summer 2011 trend alert:
Nail technicians backstage used a CND nail polish in Blueberry whip and told me the trend for next spring is muted pastels (think dusty lilacs) with some soft lime and lemon shades coming through.

Eye colour trends for next season:
Minx, oyster cream, dove grey, silver, pale pinks.

Spring/summer 2011 trend you can wear now:
Attracta said, ‘Fill in your brows and comb upwards – almost vertical – for an urban feel to your look’. This gives classic style an edge.
