We sneak backstage at Christopher Kane

by Katie Corcoran
Backstage hair and beauty at Christopher Kane

As one of London Fashion Week’s hottest designers it’s no surprise that Christopher Kane’s show was as hard to get into as a nun’s knickers. If there had been any more important looking people holding clipboards I would have been mistaken for thinking it was the pope who was just about to walk into the trendy warehouse in East London – but alas it was Scottish born designer and one of this week’s biggest tickets, Christopher Kane. Backstage was hot and busy, too much so for my liking but I still managed to catch up with Lucia Pica head make-up artist for MAC who said the make-up look they were creating was ‘Princess Anne on acid’. Her words not mine! It’s all about looking prim and proper but with a flush of colour on the cheeks indicating a touch of naughtiness to the models look - like they had been messing around in the hay. The skin was completely fresh and flawless – of course – and Lucia opted for a peachy blusher (she used the MAC Blush Ombre in Ripe Peach) as it gives a warmer colour to the apples of the cheeks as opposed to pink shades which can leave skin with a cold bluey undertone. The eyes had a dash of eye liner (minus any fancy flicks thank you very much) and shock horror no mascara. Is this really a trend we will be following? No mascara?

Finally the lip was painted a soft rose colour so as not to overpower the whole look and hey presto a make-up look worthy of a princess but edgy enough for one of London’s hippest designers. We like.
