Hi John,
I've been hearing a lot about peptides for skincare, especially a new brand called Skin Nutrition. I just wanted to know what peptides are, how they work on the skin and if they are harsh on the skin in any way? I am 25.
Cheers, Zoe
Zoe,
Okey doke, I rang around a couple of colleagues to try and find the simplest way to explain this epic in the amount of space I have. The truth? I even started to doubt my own understanding of peptides and peptide chains! So I did an hour with my friend, the internet, and found a site that gave such a clear and easy explanation, as well as lists of current products that contain them. Cop out? I hope not, because I was personally assured when I read this laymen's term page too. The site link is treatment-skincare.com.
The thing I will add is that the longer the chain of peptides, the more effective the parts. And rest easy that they are not harmful and truly are the cutting edge of the industry - that is why you are hearing the word bandied about like rain water!
Thanks for making me look into this. Never too late the learn...
John
Hi John,
I've started using Nurture Night Repair Vit A Cream and I'm 38. I'm wondering if this is ok to use and whether I will benefit from it. Also, what does Vitamin A do for the skin?
Many thanks, Debbie
Debbie,
Yes, it is fine for you to use. It's not the most potent product on the market but it includes one of the key ingredients that is proven to give positive results, Retinols. These are chemical cousins to vitamin A and help to resurface the skin and promote collagen and elastin support fibres from within.
At 38 you are perfectly targeted to this sort of product and you can upgrade to stronger Retinol products with a lesser fear of reactivity when you feel your skin needs it. But please ensure you are wearing an SPF during the day as the new skin you is more vulnerable as the top layer is being smoothed by the product.
All the best, John
Hi John,
I unfortunately have some broken veins on my cheeks - not an attractive look for a 31 year old. Although foundation hides them, I would like to get rid of them properly. I am getting married in August and would like to be rid of them by then. Is there any way I could remove these pesky things without spending a fortune?
Many thanks, Kate
Kate,
Remove? Nope, sorry. There are a couple of really good N.V. Perricone products in the Thread Vein category, but don't look for a miracle. The only way you are really going to be rid of them is to have them laser treated. It isn't as expensive as you may think, but it will take your having a consultation to determine the price and course of action. There is a really great pre-makeup base by Shu Uemura that works with a combination of green pigments to optically correct the way we see the green so you don't end up looking heavily covered, and it also uses lighting technology to blur the red. The effect is amazing. Some women don't even feel they need a foundation over it and it is only £18.00. But this is a makeup product rather than a long-term solution. For that you will have to save your pennies and take a leap!
Good luck on your big day,
John
