Thermae Bath Spa, Bath
Reviewed by Bridget March
Bath's hot springs and Roman Baths have always been a magnet for tourists, but only since the opening of the Thermae Spa, have visitors been able to bathe in those naturally warm waters as the Celts and Romans did over 2,000 years ago. Britain's original and only natural thermal spa encased in its stylish Grade-1 Listed exterior sits well at home here, providing the perfect meeting of the ancient and modern.
Experience the spa by being gently glided around the mineral-rich silky warm waters and massaged in the whirlpool Jacuzzi in the lower-ground Minerva Bath. Then infuse your pores with aroma oils in the dramatically lit glass steam pods before being stunned by rich displays of the City in the open-air rooftop pool, picturesquely displaying the Cathedral in focus above rising steam.
And if you want something a little extra, there are a range of treatments to indulge every temptation. From facial and massages to vichy showers, dry floatations and hot stone spa therapies. Be sure to plan treatments early though, as they get booked up well in advance.
To avoid a crowded spa experience visit in the morning for an invigorating wake-up call, or try the Twilight Package, perfect for romantic rooftop star-gazing.
