Growing up in LA as the daughter of Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight, Angelina Jolie was no stranger to the film industry and she began studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute when she was just 11 years old. These days, Angelina is best known for her striking, exotic looks - she is part Czech, French-Canadian, Iroquois and English - and it was her move into modelling at 16 which got her noticed leading to roles in a number of music videos, including tracks by Meat Loaf and Lenny Kravitz.

It was in the late \'90s that Angelina really made movie directors sit up and take notice after she played a number of strong roles in made-for-TV films. She picked up a Golden Globe for her performance in George Wallace (1997) and another Golden Globe for her moving role in Gia (1998), the true story of supermodel Gia Carangi, one of the youngest celebrities to die from Aids, aged just 26. Angelina has opted for a buzz cut here for maximum impact, a look few people could pull off but, thanks to those trademark full lips, she easily pulls it off.

Her award-winning TV roles quickly led to a number of award-winning movies including Bone Collector and Girl, Interrupted in which Angelina was awarded a Golden Globe and Academy Award for her memorable performance as a sociopath. It was at this point that Angelina embraced the goth look, with dark clothes, porcelain skin and hair dyed jet black.

Now that Angelina had made her mark in the movie industry, her personal life really started hitting the headlines and she developed a reputation as a bit of a hard-ass who had a thing for blood. As well as scrawling ex-husband Johnny\'s name in her own blood on the back of her shirt at their wedding, both she and new husband Billy Bob Thornton were often seen wearing vials of each other\'s blood around their necks. Angelina seemed to enjoy her new image and stuck with the goth look, pencilling in defined brows and scraping back her hair for a dramatic look.

It was perhaps the media\'s new obsession with Angelina\'s striking look that resulted in her being approached to play her most famous role to date, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Almost overnight the goth we once knew was replaced with a new sex symbol as Angelina embraced her now famous athletic frame, ditching the pale face powder and big brows for pared-down flawless make-up.

While filming one of the Lara Croft movies Angelina visited Cambodia. Shortly after, she began visiting refugee camps around the world, adopted her first child, Maddox, from Cambodia in 2002 and later Zahara from Ethiopia in 2005. Her new humanitarian experiences brought out a more feminine side to Angelina who was often seen wearing floral dresses and feminine make-up, while swapping the black hair for more natural caramel highlights in her layered hair.

In 2005 Angelina began filming Mr & Mrs Smith where she starred alongside Brad Pitt. The pair was spotted spending a lot of time together sparking rumours that they were having an affair, something with Angelina has always denied. Despite this, Brad separated from his wife, Jennifer Aniston and he and Angelina became a couple and parents to four more children shortly after. Angelina embraced a new sexy look at the release of the film going back to her dark locks and dark smoky eyes.
