Would you buy beauty products for under £1?

This month L'Oréal launched their new Youth Code range - their first range of anti-ageing products available on the high street based on 10 years of research on skin genes and proteins responsible for the youthful characteristics of skin. Priced at just £15.99 you would be forgiven for wondering if this reasonably priced product actually worked. Plus high street shop Wilkinson can now supply you will a whole beauty regime for under a fiver with their skin care products starting at a thrifty 57p and Superdrug has just launched a £1 make-up range. Surely the Elemis' of this world priced at over £50 will have more science and skin care knowledge behind them, right?

Well, not necessarily. It's important to remember that brands such as L'Oréal - and companies such as Origins and Skin Lab- owned by beauty giants Estee Lauder - have hundreds of scientists at their beck and call and, let's face it, a bob or two as well. We've tried this new Youth Code and are hooked, it's soft, creamy, revitalizing and lifting which are all the things that high end brands offer too. Just at double the price. So we're impressed, the high street is definitely upping its game, but would you buy products for a mere £1. I mean, times are hard, right?
