On trial - Illuminating foundations
Sometimes we need a touch of light to brighten up our days, and as we wave good bye to what little sunshine we’ve seen this year, we have to find it in other ways! Not all of us like to wear heavy foundations during those ‘in-between’ months, such as September, so we’ve tested 5 of the best illuminating foundations to give you that all important glow yet still achieve some crucial cover…
Tested by Beauty Assistant, Katie CorcoranNo7 Instant Radiance Brush foundation
"This foundation comes in a tube format with a brush attached to help with even application. I think this works well but I still like to finish off with my finger tips to get a truly smooth coverage. Having said that this foundation is lovely and light and doesn't dry in those annoying patches you sometimes get with heaver creams. This also has a radiance glow effect that really leaves the skin with a subtle dewy finish. Loved it - a high street hottie!"

Clarins True Radiance
"This is a really lovely, light foundation that settles well on the skin and doesn't appear heavy but thankfully still manages to cover imperfections really well. You are left with a great even skin tone and a lovely dewy look. The lightness of the makeup means a flawless dewy complexion like those we've seen all over the autumn winter catwalks is achievable."

Clinique Gentle Light Makeup
"This light thin foundation is perfect for those that don't like a heavy finish but still want to cover up. It's great for day time coverage and lasts really well. Perfect for that everyday natural look."

Rimmel Recover Illuminating anti-fatigue foundation
"This is another really light foundation that still covers well. If you are after a skin brightening foundation that is light enough for day time but still gives good coverage - all on a budget - this is for you..."

Too Faced Magic Wand Illuminating Foundation
"This is foundation that comes with the brush attached hence the ‘Wand' name. At first, it appears quite thick on the skin but once blended soaks in well and leaves you with a nice even finish. It's really glossy - for that bright 'I'm awake' look and the added bonus is that is smells nice too!"
£20, from select Boots, House of Frasers and Debenhams stores nationwide
