Backstage at London Fashion Week - Vivienne Westwood

Battling the heat, photographers, models and make-up artists we snuck behind the scenes at the Vivienne Westwood show.

The front row at Vivienne Westwood's Red Label show was packed full of celebrities from Sarah Harding sporting a rather dubious hairdo, to Nicola Roberts, Geri Halliwell, Alexa Chung and Michelle Williams to name but a few. Backstage however it was just as busy. Battling the heat, photographers, models, make-up artists and event organisers we snuck behind the scenes to see what was happening with the hair and make-up for this iconic London show. Here's what we saw...

Who we spotted:
Pixie Geldof getting into her outfit, Daisy Lowe having her hair done and looking after her teeny tiny little dog (animals backstage are a really bad idea!), Coco Rocha looking très relaxed doing interviews and of course the lady herself, Vivienne Westwood over-seeing the hair and make-up and making some rather last minute changes.

Make-up:
Gordon Espinet International Make-up Artist for MAC was creating the look for Vivienne's LFW show. There was a tribal, fierce girl feel about the make-up with thick sweeping eye liner, filled in brows, plum stained lips and dewy skin. Gordon worked with Vivienne at her London Fashion Week show in February this year and this look was completely different from the poppy '80s style of last season. Backstage Gordon was using the MAC Studio Sculpt foundation, powder eye liner applied with a brush to create those winged lines and lip liner in plum, applied to the whole of the lips.

Nails:
Hello! We loved the quirky take on nail polish for this show which didn't really involve any nail polish at all. Each model had an orange stationery dot placed in the middle of each nail which was then covered with a top coat. Eclectic genius!

Hair:
James Rowe was the hair stylist working with L'Oréal for this show where he created a messy, edgy, relaxed look with lots of texture, incorporating twists and ribbons for a touchable finish. James said he wanted to step away from the groomed styles we tend to see on the catwalk and create something that was in keeping with fashion and its constant change. Talking of constant change, James loved working with Vivienne who decided right at the last minute she wanted ribbons adding to the hair to give it more of a girly finish. Does James enjoy working this close to the curtain call on the hair styles? You bet!
