While we rarely need an excuse to indulge in the delight of vintage inspired hairstyles, the DVD release of Pan Am starring Christina Ricci has given us a shiny new opportunity!
Today's inspiration? Christina's shoulder length flicked bob for pure sixties chic, explained rather marvellously by vintage hairstylist Belinda Hay...
STEP 1: Blowdry your hair with volume using a medium sized round ceramic brush.
STEP 2: Section your hair in to 3 parts, your fringe, the top 'internal' section from temple to you occipital bone (the area just below your crown where your head curves in) and the third section is the back section.
STEP 3: Tong the top section using medium curling tongs and secure with pin curl pins to create volume through the top.
STEP 4: Tong the underneath sections. This needs to be done by placing the tong on the top of your section and curling up - here is where we create the flick! Then, secure them with pin curl pins and leave to cool. Tong your fringe so it turns under and sweep it to the side.
STEP 5: Spray with lots of medium hold brushable hairspray and remove all of the pin curl pins.
STEP 6: If you want to create volume, backcomb around the crown area spraying with hairspray as you go, and then smooth over the top sections using a soft bristle or boar bristle brush to smooth the backcombing.
TO FINISH: Use your soft bristle brush or a round ceramic brush to smooth all of the ends into a flick, and finish off with a healthy dose of super strong hairspray.
Pan Am: The Complete Series is out now on DVD, yay, while you can find out more information about Belinda and her Shoreditch salon The Painted Lady at www.thepaintedladylondon.com.
What do you think? Will you be trying out the flicked bob?
