Skin complexion looking dull or feeling dry? No need to book an overpriced treatment - make a do it yourself face mask from food in your fridge and kitchen cupboards.

Homemade face mask for oily skin

Getting eggy is great for oily skin as the whites will draw out impurities and excess oils, while the yolk leaves your skin feeling baby soft.

Ingredients:
1 egg
Squeeze of a lemon

Directions
Whisk the egg in a small bowl and add a squirt of lemon. Yes - it's that easy.

Homemade face mask for acne prone skin

Oats and honey are well known for their anti-inflammatory properties, so soak in some wholegrain goodness with a warm oat and honey mask to help tackle those annoying blemishes.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup of oatmeal
1/4 cup of water
2 tablespoons of honey
Squeeze of a lemon

Directions
Grind the oatmeal in a pestle and mortar (a blender works too!). Add 1/4 cup of warm water and 2 tablespoons of honey, then whisk until smooth and paste-like. Add a drop of lemon and apply.

Homemade face mask for dry skin

If your face is feeling tight or chapped, try this home-made creamy avocado mask. Not only will the oils moisturise and revitalise your skin, the honey will kill nasty bacteria in your pores too.

Ingredients
1 cup of plain natural yoghurt
1/2 avocado
1 teaspoon of honey

Directions
Add the yoghurt and a fully ripe avocado to a mixing bowl, and mash together with a fork - or whatever mashing implement you fancy! Once well mixed, stir in a teaspoon of honey. When you're happy with the consistency, apply the mask to your face and neck.

Some tips before you make your face mask

  • Prep your skin by washing it thoroughly and patting your face with a warm towel or cloth to open up your pores.

  • Apply the mask over your T-zone and cheeks avoiding the eye area.

  • Leave each mask on for 15-20 minutes or until dry. Try to avoid talking or frowning when the mask is drying to prevent cracking!

  • To remove the masks, soak a cloth or towel in warm water and gently wipe away.

  • Help seal your pores with a splash of cool water to finish
