Fear not, we've drawn up a fool's guide to each trend, explaining what it is and why you might want it. You're welcome.
What is Ombre hair?
The trend for dark roots and lighter ends started a few years back with the likes of Caroline Flack and her signature dip-dye. A clear dark to light fade, this a worn-in look perfect for anyone who loves low maintenance colour.
What is balayage hair?
Poppy Delevingne championed it at her wedding recently and celebs like Olivia Wilde are all going for the balayage look. From the French word meaning to sweep or to paint, the balayage effect is similar to traditional highlights, but achieved by painting on colour freehand, for a more natural sun-kissed finish.
What is sombre hair?
If the stark dark to light of ombre is too much for you, meet sombre. A more subtle take on the dip-dye trend, lighter sections are taken up a little higher, and the lower lengths have ribbons of darker colour for a softer mix.
Celebs like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Cara Delevingne, and Jessica Alba are perfect examples of the look.
