The University of Michigan has found that women who worry a lot about being the perfect mum may be more likely to suffer from depression.

In the survey a group were asked whether they agreed or disagreed with statements like these: 'I should do everything for my baby myself', 'other mothers have fewer parenting difficulties than I do' and 'I feel guilty when I put my needs before the needs of my baby'.

They found that those who were anxious about whether other people thought they were a good mum were more likely to become depressed due to the pressure.

Talking about the findings, Dr Thomason said:

"Kids are supposed to be perfect and well behaved, and if that's not the case it negatively reflects on you as a parent through public perception...if the baby is misbehaving, it doesn't make you a bad mother."

This is all the more reason for we ladies to stop putting invisible demands on ourselves and getting panicked about having kids at all before we're emotionally ready.

So, come on ladies, let's all just chill out a little and take the pressure off.
