The women, mostly in their 30s, were either born without a uterus or had them removed due to cancer.
Within the next few months, the medical teams will transfer embryos into the uteri, and it's hoped they will be the first women to get pregnant and give birth with a transplanted uterus.
If your mouth wasn't already on the floor, the wombs the women received were donated by relatives.
We are aghast. How incredible is that?
However, not everyone is sold on the medical procedure, saying that these women should have adopted instead:
Is this really ethical when so many children are in need of adoption or foster care? Thought?? http://t.co/1gi3izjzrf"— Lindsay Nakonechny (@lindzee_N) January 13, 2014
