Aerobic exercise strengthens your heart and lungs and helps maintain muscle tone. Exercising in this way will help you cope with the changes in your body throughout pregnancy.
Some gyms have aerobics classes specifically for pregnant women which can be a great way to meet other mums-to-be. Your instructor will understand how to keep you and your baby safe during exercise and avoid any activities that they might think are too strenuous for you.
If you can't make it to a gym or would just prefer to exercise in the comfort of your own home, try exercise DVDs or put on some music and come up with your own routine. Include some stretches, march on the spot or use the bottom of your stairs for some light step-aerobics.
During pregnancy it's important to choose low-impact exercises so avoid jumping, high kicks and fast running. Keep one foot on the ground at all times to minimize stress on your joints and always warm up beforehand.
