Stella McCartney a/w 08/09
Oh, to be a Stella McCartney girl. The British designer consistently manages to evoke a dream of fresh prettiness and youth. (The models, for once cast as their actual age, also looked like they were enjoying themselves, managing to almost crack a smile as they tossed their perfect flyaway manes and swung their (vegan) arm candy.) After last season's floral concerto, the autumn / winter 2008/9 collection was a moodier tune, in a sombre palette more suited to the dark months. The accessories, in particular, were strong: thigh-high wedge-heeled boots in mock sheepskin with a platform sole, and lunchbox handbags in mahogany brown dangling from a gold chain. A pair of skinny grey wool trousers showcased the designer's flair for a flattering cut, while a coat of arms was incorporated as a pattern into the knitwear. -Danielle Radojcin
