Beautiful Penelope Cruz bagged the evening\'s hotly contested best supporting actress for her part in Woody Allen\'s latest.

Best Supporting Actor - Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight

Goldie Hawn presented the award to The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven who gave a short but emotional speech. “I made two films with Heath Ledger," he said of late actor. "I consider myself lucky to have made one. He was one of a kind.”

Kate managed to beat herself to the Best Actress award, not many people get to say that! She was given the Bafta by James Bond star Daniel Craig. It was another breathless and excited speech from the actress but she managed to avoid tears even when thanking, The Reader producers, the late Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack.

Adding a tremendous high to his rollercoaster career, Mickey Rourke bagged the best actor award for his powerhouse performance in the Wrestler. He also managed to get the biggest laugh of the night when during his acceptance speech he thanked director Darren Aronofsky for giiving him a second chance after he\'d "spent the last 15 years f*****g up my career!"

Last year\'s Rising Star winner Shia LaBeouf presented the award to Kidulthood and Adulthood writer/director/star Noel Clarke. The former Dr Who star gave an inspirational speech referencing US President Barack Obama’s classic ‘Yes we can’ tone. He also took time to thank his wife, he lovingly called his “tag team partner”. Thanked in no less than five speeches on the night, Danny Boyle was the night’s big winner. After receiving his award from Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen the director thanked the city of Mumbai, his cast, crew and his 20-year-old son Gabriel, who promptly jumped up and shouted, “I love you, Dad!”
